Are you planning a ski vacation to Big Sky, Montanan this holiday season? Whether it’s your first ski trip or you’re a seasoned pro, we know you’re going to have a blast on the slopes! However, before you head out, it’s important to know exactly what to bring, how to dress, and how to take care of yourself while on the mountain. At Journey Rent-A-Car, we’re sharing a few tips and tricks to get you started.
In the weeks leading up to your ski trip, it's a good idea to do a little conditioning to get your body ready for the physical exertion of skiing. Even if you don't plan on tackling the bigger hills, your quads will thank you if you prepare with some cardio, toning, stretching, and strength training. Even if you're generally an active and fit person, you'll likely be using muscles you don't regularly use, and you wouldn't want to ruin your trip by pulling a muscle or getting injured on your first day.
If this is your first ski trip, you're going to want to reference a packing list of what you'll need to bring with you or items you'll need to purchase once you arrive at the resort. We like this one from Aspen Snowmass that lists all the things you'll need for a successful ski trip. Depending on where you're coming from, it may be easier to purchase these items once you arrive, especially because ski towns tend to have consignment shops that have great sales on used ski items. If you do plan to bring most of your ski gear with you, an SUV rental will definitely come in handy during the drive.
Finally, don't forget that you won't be skiing the entire time you're here at Big Sky, and you'll need to pack for that as well. We always recommend investing in some "after-ski" boots. You'll want something sturdy and waterproof with excellent traction for slippery conditions. Dress warmly and comfortably for the days you'll spend taking in the sites and festivities, and we think you'll be all set for a magical ski trip this holiday season.
